Potato Question

What do you do with a sack full of potatoes that are starting to wither and growing long sprouts? I’m doing my best to eat them but there is only so much tartiflette I can eat.

The compost bin is out since I know it’s not very hot and I don’t want to grow potatoes there and I’d prefer not to put them in the bin. So any suggestions welcome please.

Make potato soup of course! I just had the same problem and remembered how my mom use to make this all the time...so I gave it a try and wow!!

I've also got rather a lot of leeks too so I could be making Leek and Potato soup to feed an army!

I was wondering if they could be fed to chickens, I don't have pigs so that's out. I really do have a lot left, around 20Kg so it will be an awful lot of soup

It could go in the freezer though - do you have a big freezer? I can't remember if you've mentioned it or not. I think soup will freeze although potatoes and potato products (mash and so on) don't freeze well in my opinion. You could make lots of potato salad I suppose. Or plant some of them (in a field as opposed to in the compost) to put off the problem until later in the year (when you could end up with ten times as many potatoes to get rid off, so maybe not.)

I was going to say leek and potato soup. We had some today, yummy! Think yourself lucky, I had to buy my leeks and potatoes. It freezes really well

There's a potato appetizer that I like to make. I like it so much that I've eaten whole meals of them instead of just limiting myself to an appetizer! I cut the potatoes into thick slices and roast them until they are crisp and slightly brown. Then I top them with whatever strikes my fancy... beets and goat cheese, cheddar and fried onions... you name it! SO yummy...

Thanks for the ideas - all I need is a kitchen and a cooker now.

It was egg & chips tonight, Hit Pay Dirt's suggestion would have been more healthy but while I don't have an oven I did have access to a hotplate.
